Staying at Dharmagiri on a Self Retreat

Self Retreats at Dharmagiri
At Dharmagiri we support practitioners of all contemplative traditions who wish to do a self retreat. Dharmagiri offers a unique blend of deep stillness and peace which is present within the sacred-ness of the land and through the years of dedicated practice. It also offers wholesome vegetarian food, access to walks within the Drakensberg and a calm and supportive environment. Before accepting long term retreatants we prefer a ‘try out’ period for a shorter time. If you are from overseas and you want to stay for a long period, please can you send a reference from spiritual guide or meditation teacher who knows you well.
Please contact the office to apply and discuss your proposed stay. We encourage self retreatants to join in the morning and evening meditation, daily puja (chanting of text and mantra) and to contribute to the daily work. Other than that self retreatants are free to schedule their own day and are welcome to use the library and taped Dharma talks. Self retreatants are welcome to use the upper shrine for their daily meditation practice. Meditation guidance and support is there if needed.
