September 19th – 26th

Vipassana Retreat - ‘The Heart of Buddhist Meditation’

Facilitated by Thanissara

This retreat, suitable for those with some meditation experience, explores the contemplative path through the use of classic Buddhist meditation and its underlying philosophy. It is held in silence and includes; meditation instruction, dharma talks and guided meditation, chi kung and some use of mantra and chanting.

 

November 14 – 16th

Calm & Insight

Guided by JP Meyer

This weekend provides a perfect opportunity for those starting out with the practice of meditation as well as those who are in need of a refresher. It will be held in an atmosphere of contemplative silence and will include guided meditations, taped dharma talks & discussion.

 

December 5 – 9th

The Practice of Presence

Facilitated by Thanissara

This retreat will explore the interface of the psychological and the spiritual, the personal and the transpersonal, in an atmosphere of contemplative silence. There will be instruction, small group inquiry sessions, meditation and chi kung.

 

December 12 – 14th

Dharmagiri Sangha Gathering

A time to meet old friends, contemplate the year gone together and ‘howitz going’, share food, meditations, discussions and walks. Please bring vegetarian food to share, (contact the office for advice on what to bring).

 

Jan 10th – Feb 6th

Summer Month Long

This retreat is suitable for those with mature meditation experience and an ability to enter a long period of contemplative silence. Founded in Theravada, Mahayana and Chan (Zen) Buddhist practice and philosophy, it explores the common ground that supports calm, insight and freedom of heart. It includes instruction, dharma talks, individual interviews, the use of devotional practices and some chi kung.

 

Advance Notice – Max will be back with his magical Chi Kung – March 20/ 22nd & 24/ 25th – Due to the popularity of Max’s retreats – book sooner rather than later!

 

Retreat Facilitators:

 

Thanissara - a Buddhist practitioner since 1975 and was a Buddhist nun for 12 years. She facilitates retreats internationally the last 20 years and has an MA in Buddhist psychotherapy.

 

Kittisaro - spent 15 years as a monk in the Thai Forest Tradition of Ajahn Chah. Together with his wife, Thanissara, he is co-founder of the Dharmagiri Hermitage in Underberg, South Africa, where they facilitate long retreats. He recently completed his second silent year retreat.

 

JP Meyer - is an artist, part-time teacher and manager of Dharmagiri Buddhist Hermitage. Shortly after his first meditation retreat in 1994 he swapped the corporate life for that of a full-time art student, graduating with distinction in 1999. Since then he has exhibited, travelled and spent many months in the ashrams, meditation centres and monasteries of India, Sri Lanka and the U.S.
