Dharmagiri is in rural KwaZulu Natal which is deeply affected by lack of development and the HIV/Aids pandemic. Over the years Dharmagiri has responded to this situation by initiating and supporting Outreach programmes. In conjuction with Insight Meditation Community San Francisco (IMCSF

Dharmagiri lauched the very successful Woza Moya project which now has its own community centre (funded by IMCSF) next to the Buddhist Retreat Centre, Ixopo. During their overseas teaching engagements Kittisaro and Thanissara continue to fund raise for Woza Moya as well as an Outreach programme local to Dharmagiri.

The Khuphuka Project

Dharmagiri is currently focusing on launching a new HIV/Aids Outreach in the area local to the hermitage - the KwaSani District. This will be a sister project to Woza Moya and have many of similar elements. Further details will be available soon.

Dharmagiri also fund raises to support local rural education and has provided a computer room with 10 computers, photo copier, water systems, student sponsorship, library books and building upgrades.
