Ajahn ChahAjahn Chah inspired Kittisaro and Thanissara to ordain and was instrumental in guiding the Forest monastic training where they developed their practice and understanding of the Dhamma. By the time of his death Ajahn Chah had overseen the founding of over 100 monasteries in Thailand, England, Switzerland, Italy, New Zealand, Australia and the USA. Ajahn Chah highly influenced Jack Kornfield and the Vipassana movement in the USA which founded Insight Meditation Society and Spirit Rock Meditation Center.

Master Hsuan HuaMaster Hua had a powerful impact on both Kittisaro and Thanissara who met him in both the UK and USA in the 1980’s. When some of the Masters Western disciples spent time at Chithurst Monastery in 1982, they inspired Kittisaro and Thanissara and other Forest School monastics to take up some of their Mahayana practices, in particular the Kuan Yin Dharmas which has become an integral part of practice at Dharmagiri.
